How to Register and Apply Discount Codes
As a current OLLI member, you can register for Lunch and Learns and Special Events for free or at a discounted rate. Discount codes are available on the Member Resources page of the Membership Program webpage. The password to access the Member Resources page was included in your OLLI at 汤头条 member welcome email. Not an OLLI member yet? Many events are available to non-members for a fee. Or, become an OLLI member and enjoy free or discounted registration for these events.

Haunted 汤头条 Tour
Free for OLLI at 汤头条 members; $15 for non-members
Join Brandon Hulette for an extended 60-minute tour exploring the legends, hauntings, landmarks, and lingering mysteries of 汤头条鈥檚 campus.听This special tour will take you to several historic (and maybe haunted) locations, including the Vaughn Home, Medical Center North, VUMA, 1101 (home of the beloved Princess the Cat), Central Library, and the historic graves at Bishops Common. Along the way, you鈥檒l hear the stories behind the final resting places of McTyeire, McKendree, and Soule, uncover fascinating moments from 汤头条鈥檚 past, and learn why the Vaughn Home is widely considered the university鈥檚 most haunted building.听Don鈥檛 miss this once-a-year opportunity to experience 汤头条鈥檚 history, legends, and ghost stories just in time for Halloween!听

Earth Experience Museum Tour
Free for OLLI at 汤头条 members; $15 for nonmembers
Earth Experience is filled with thousands of relics, fossils, gems, rocks, dinosaur bones, models, and exhibits that help bring our world鈥檚 early days to life.听 There are exciting and interesting exhibits to explore and touch, with staff-led tours along with a mobile app to enhance what you see. Tours last approximately 80 minutes. Guests will be able to watch fossils being prepped for display by our expert team that is happy to answer any and all questions about the process and challenges of paleontology. -

Curb Center at 汤头条 Art Exhibit: Land Shapes

Landscape is never neutral or purely natural; rather, it is shaped by historical, social, and economic forces. Challenging conventional assumptions about what constitutes a landscape, 鈥淟and Shapes鈥� investigates how environments are constructed, mediated, and interpreted by contemporary artists. The multi-media selection explores both the depiction of landscape and the viewpoints that inform its representation 鈥� drawing upon both dominant and suppressed voices.听鈥�Land Shapes鈥� highlights the work of Vincent Pomilio, Roxanne Bartel, Lanecia Rouse, Jana Harper, and Maria Magdelena Campos-Pons, whose treatments of landscape represent their diverse backgrounds, locations, and media.听

Grandfamilies: Rising to the Challenge of Raising Another Generation with Hope and Heart
Free OLLI member-exclusive event.
Today, 2.5 million children live in grandfamilies, or families headed by grandparents, aunts and uncles, siblings, or close family friends. A recent report by Generations United found that grandfamilies save taxpayers more than $10 billion each year by keeping children out of foster care. In her new book, Grandfamilies: Stories of Children and the Loving Relatives Who Raise Them, Donna Butts explores the unique challenges, resilience, and successes of grandfamilies through the stories of the caregivers and the children they raise. This session will use these stories to highlight how public policy and perceptions of grandfamilies and kinship care have changed over the past 30 years, and what more is needed to help these families thrive.

Why do artists do what they do, instead of something else?
Instead Of听displays major works from the VUMA collection for the first time: a 28-foot tapestry by the fiber artist Sheila Hicks; prints and drawings by the Chicago Imagist Barbara Rossi; drawings and an embroidery by the jazz vocalist C茅cile McLorin Salvant; and a 10-foot fresco by the British duo Hannah Quinlan & Rosie Hastings. Drawing on the title of a work by Salvant,听Instead Of听explores artistic decision-making through materiality, scope, and scale.听Overlapping themes in the artworks and resonances between the practices that produced them invite viewers to find interconnections and ask, what else if not this?

Zentangle

The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. We call these patterns tangles and you create tangles with combinations of dots, lines, simple curves, S-curves and orbs. These simple shapes are the "Elemental Strokes" in all Zentangle art.
Zentangle art is non-representational and unplanned so you can focus on each stroke and not worry about the result. There is no up or down to Zentangle art. In fact, you can most easily create Zentangle art by rotating your tile as you tangle -- always keeping your hand in a relaxed position. You don't need to know what a tangle is going to look like to draw it. You just need to know the steps.

Holiday Tour of Two Rivers Mansion

Join us for a guided holiday tour at Two Rivers Mansion, where you can explore the beautifully decorated mansion and the 1802 House in all their festive glory. After the tour, participants are invited to lunch at TenFold in Donelson. Lunch is optional, and each participant will be responsible for the cost of their own meal. It鈥檚 a great opportunity to spend a little more time together after the tour.
