Are you interested in STEM learning and education? In getting to know academic support in higher education from an administrative angle? Come join our team at Tutoring Services, where you will assist and coordinate tutors in Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, and Neuroscience! Your experience in STEM education, cognitive psychology, quantitative methods, learning and design, and much more, can be of assistance to our existing team. You will be asked to work closely with our Assistant Director for Tutoring, refining our training modules and professional development for our tutors. You will be given opportunities to contribute to tutor training and other professional development events with our highly trained undergrad STEM tutoring staff.ÌýFederal Work Study preferred.

Tutoring Services offers appointment-based assistance to all currently enrolled ÌÀÍ·Ìõ students who wish to enhance their academic performance in classes offered by the College of Arts and Science in the following departments: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, and Neuroscience. We also offer a number of academic support services in partnership with theÌýÌýand theÌýK.C. Potter Center for LGBTQI Life.

Job Description:Ìý
ÌýThe Writing Studio and Tutoring Services office is seeking a Graduate or Professional Student Worker, (Federal Work Study preferred), to serve as Graduate Assistant for the Tutoring Services program. Working closely with the Assistant Director for Tutoring Services, the Graduate Assistant will support the program, its operations, and its undergraduate tutors in Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, and Neuroscience, helping develop learning support modules and training workshops focusing on STEM education.Ìý
The Tutoring Services Graduate Assistant is responsible for supporting a select number of day-to-day administrative activities of the Assistant Director of Tutoring Services as well as various projects and initiatives throughout the academic year. This position assists Tutoring Services in fulfilling its mission of building an accessible, engaging, and research-informed space that serves the wider ÌÀÍ·Ìõ community in STEM tutoring. The Tutoring Services Graduate Assistant is highly organized, team-oriented and is able to respond to in-the-moment team needs. This position has responsibilities that will contribute to Tutoring Services’ peer tutors’ education and professional development.Ìý

Duties and ResponsibilitiesÌý
- Develops tutor training and support materials as well as other educational resources based on familiarity with support for learning and STEM learning, in particular.Ìý
- ÌýAssists with organizing the two-day Tutoring Services' Training & Orientation and with the bi-monthly Tutoring Services' staff meetings.
- ÌýBecomes knowledgeable about the values, mission, and daily operations of Tutoring Services in order to effectively represent and communicate, both internally and externally, on behalf of the office.

-  Contributes to projects for the Assistant Director of Tutoring Services including tasks such as assisting with weekly and monthly data tracking and curation for assessment and reporting, contributing to tutor staff meeting professional development planning and facilitation.Ìý
Ìý - Assists with organizing and carrying out annual Tutoring Services’ application and hiring campaign for peer STEM tutors.Ìý
Ìý - Assists with tutor staff session observations and debriefing, some of which may occur on Sundays and evenings.

- Provides some clerical assistance with copying, printing documents, filing, and maintaining records specific to Tutoring Services' training, staff meetings, and academic texts and textbooks.Ìý
- Empowered to make on-site decisions to resolve problems brought forth by student participants as clients and tutors work to conduct their tutoring services' academic support operations.Ìý
 Ìý - Other duties and special projects are assigned as time and interests permit.  Ìý

QualificationsÌý
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.Ìý
 Ìý - Interest or experience in supporting student learning in math, science, or economics or in higher education academic support services more broadly are preferred.Ìý
Ìý
- ÌýExperience developing educational resources, publicity materials, and communications; coordinating events or programming; and training and supporting peer tutors is preferred.ÌýÌý
Ìý
- Demonstrated organizational skills (planning, tracking, and/or experience using tools to keep track of work and data) are preferred.Ìý
Ìý
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to work cooperatively with diverse students, staff, and faculty.Ìý
 Ìý - Ability to work independently, take initiative, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities are essential.Ìý
