Overview

The CSB Macromolecular Biophysics Core supports structural biology research by providing access to the Biophysical Instrumentation Facility, the Biomolecular Crystallography Facility and the Sample Prep and Characterization resources.

Facilities and Resources

  • Biophysical Instrumentation Overview

The Biophysical Instrumentation Facility provides access to mass photometry, stopped-flow spectrometry, microscale thermophoresis, dynamic light scattering, circular dichroism, fluorescence and microcalorimetry instruments for measuring macromolecular conformation, stability and binding interactions. Access and on-on-one training are available to any interested ÌÀÍ·Ìõ researcher.

  • Biomolecular Crystallography Overview

The Biomolecular Crystallography Facility exists to make structural analysis by crystallography available by providing state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation, training, software, and support for all aspects of crystal structure solution. We strive to help crystallographers accomplish their work efficiently while being able to push the boundaries of the technology. The facility is also available to train and support researchers wanting to learn crystallography as a valuable research tool.

  • Sample Prep and Characterization

The CSB provides resources to aid ÌÀÍ·Ìõ researchers in protein production and characterization, including expression vectors and technical expertise to assist researchers with large-scale production of recombinant proteins in E. coli.

Access is available to any interested ÌÀÍ·Ìõ or VUMC researcher.

  • Gain Access to CSB-MBC

Complete an online  to gain access to CSB-LIF. Scheduling a consultation has the benefit of bringing all the resources of the CSB to bear on the initial phases of structural projects and can make a significant impact on the likelihood of success in the shortest possible time.

Initial training on CSB instruments is done primarily through one-on-one tutorial instruction, with the objective that researchers will be able to perform their own experiments independently.

Facility Director Heather Kroh is available to discuss experimental strategies and to provide advice on specific research projects.
