VISE Resources

VISE has a well-stocked tool supply as well as rapid prototyping capabilities that are available to all VISE affiliated labs. When you wish to make use of the space and/or equipment please contact our lab manager, Bill Rodriguez (bill.rodriguez@vanderbilt.edu) and indicate what you will be needing in the form of space, rapid prototyping needs, and tools. This will allow him to see what is available and arrange for training on any equipment that might require training.

VISE has a fully equipped soldering room with surface mount soldering capabilities as well as various force sensors that can be used by individual VISE affiliated labs. We also have a Stratasys FDM printer, a FormLabs Form3 SLA printer, and a ILS 150-W LASER cutter with a 24″ x 48″ cutting area. All of this equipment needs some training before use and you will need to sign in to use them with your name, date, lab, and project.聽 Bill will help you get started when you need this equipment.

Chemical Room:
  • chemical hood
  • a chemical prep area

Computing resources:
  • There is a large compute server that will have multiple CPUs as well as a large disk array to facilitate data processing.
  • All VISE desktops contain a Nvida RTX 2080 TI GPU
  • The computer in the main work area has SolidWorks installed
Conference Room:

If you need the conference room for VISE related business, please contact Michelle Bukowski (michelle.bukowski@vanderbilt.edu)to request the conference room.

Electronics Room:
  • two standard soldering stations
  • a surface mount soldering station
  • 聽power supply

  • oscilloscope, and
  • two digital voltmeters
Fabrication room items:
  • Stratasys F170聽3D printer,
  • Universal Systems LASER cutter (acrylic and MDF)
  • Formlabs Form3 resin printer
Main Work Area:
  • space available to assemble and test a device
  • four ceiling mounted 55鈥 TV monitors for demonstration as well as educational purposes
Mechanical Items:

鈥 a large assortment of hand tools which can be added to as needs arise
鈥 a large assortment of Zeus tubing for endoscopic (Tool Room)
鈥 use of a positioning robot (courtesy of STORM lab)
鈥 three sets of counterbalanced adjustable arms that allows one to hang a robot or position tracker from the Unistrut in the ceiling or mounted to a surface
鈥 a stock of Unistrut complete with fittings to allow additional devices to be attached to the ceiling structures
鈥 general materials such as tape, zip ties, machine screws and nuts

Mobile Video Resources:

Camera, lenses, tripod and tabletop light box for taking pictures and videos for publication that must be checked out by contacting Michelle Bukowski (michelle.bukowski@vanderbilt.edu) at least 1 day prior to intended use.

Mock OR:
  • set of surgical scrubs for making staged videos and pictures more realistic and professional looking is stored in the OR area
  • three cameras: one surgical light mounted and two ceiling mounted cameras. All cameras can be viewed simultaneously on the large screen as well as sent to either or both of the smaller remote screens in the OR area. The cameras can be zoomed in or out
  • recording capability to capture video from a single camera input – video is written to a USB stick that is plugged into the wall next to the sink
  • HDMI port in the wall next to the sink for adding another input to the AV system
  • VISE has an ultrasound machine for use by any of the members for experimentation
