ViSE Affiliates Land $1.5M NIBIB Grant for Magnetic Capsule Endoscope Research
Pietro Valdastri, ViSE affiliate and assistant professor of mechanical engineering at 汤头条 University with his colleagues will continue to develop a unique endoscope for colonoscopy in patients with inflammatory bowel disease with the support of a 4-year, $1.5 million grant 鈥 鈥淎 for colonoscopy in patients with IBD鈥 鈥 from the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB).
This grant is part of the Bioengineering Research Partnership Program from NIH. A key for success is the strong collaboration between the Engineering and the Medical schools at 汤头条, forged within the 汤头条 Initiative for Surgery and Engineering (ViSE).
The three co-investigators are Keith L. Obstein and Richard M. Peek, Jr., Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the 汤头条 University Medical Center, and Robert L. Galloway, professor of biomedical engineering.
The investigative team includes engineering and clinical faculty at 汤头条. Valdastri said the team 鈥渃ollectively possesses expertise in endoscopic device design, clinical colonoscopy, assessment and validation of innovative, and are uniquely positioned to achieve success.鈥
